Best wishes for a wonderful Holidays Season and a Happy 2024

Best wishes for a wonderful Holiday Season and a Happy New Year from the SBD Lab Team.

I would like to thank you on behalf of myself and the entire SBD Lab team for being with us. This year, we hosted researchers from Belgium, Chile, France, India, Iraq, Iran, Italy, and China at the Sustainable Building Design Lab, School of Engineering, Liege University. Three key members left the lab in 2023. Dr. Ramin Rahif and Dr. MURIEL DIAZ graduated, and Dr. Deepak Amaripadath moved to ASU.

I would like to thank my students, colleagues, and collaborators for their hard work while preparing to enter the staff shortage 🪫 and the institution's underperforming reality 🔜. This year was tough with many departures and the continuous increase in workload on the teaching, research, and service fronts. The inflation is beating us with all our purchases for new equipment and public tenders. Based on experience in five EU states, the 🇪🇺 🩼recovery plans 🔜 are failing utterly (🧈meltdown), not only in Belgium. Europe 🇪🇺 is shrinking 🐐 and ⬇️ declining (morally and economically) with an agenda that promotes utopian delusions and austerity measures. Change is not managed and occurs only through 💥 shocks. Institutional blindness can be summarized as 'the blind leading the blind' 🙈 on all governance and institutional levels. We are missing strategic planning and consistency in the relationship between 🏭 industry, 🔬research institutions, 👩⚖️policies, and 🧑⚖️standardization.

Also, the genocide in Gaza is another revealing event that reflects the reality of and in the 🇪🇺 EU27 ( 😊😤double standards and lack of firm 👈👉 leadership). Carpet bombing Gaza in 2023 is a bookcase of genocide and violation of international laws. Palestinians have more than 75 years under occupation and double standards. Therefore, my personal Shady Attia standpoint is clear: No 🌍environmental agenda can get through without respecting 🫂human rights and terminating 🕳️apartheid. Thanks to Generation Z, which is smart and able to understand and factor in the reality of the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. Learning from history is the best way to predict the future, to be consistent, and not to live in delusions and bubbles of ethno-supremacy.

Finally, I hope next year will allow us to enjoy the presence of our loved ones, reduce the work pressure, meet our challenges, and achieve our goals.
