[Fieldwork] Installation of Weather Stations in Brussels for ILOTS Project

The team of SBD Lab installed a series of weather stations in Brussels 🇧🇪 and is working on producing an 🌦️ urban climate map of the capital with the purpose of deriving evidence-based recommendations for a more sustainable urban development pathway.
To collect weather data, researchers from Liege University installed several weather stations in and around the capital city in order to measure weather conditions 🌦️ through its parameters, including temperature, humidity, precipitation, wind speed and direction, solar radiation, and atmospheric pressure.

Additional materials are required to completely install the weather stations, including memory cards, sim cards, metal poles, chargeable batteries, etc. To be safe, the weather stations were installed on and attached to light masts with the coordination of SIBELGA using Band-it steel clamps and ties.

The SBD Lab established a connection between all installed weather stations and central servers with a data logging interval of 15 minutes ⌛. The weather station locations represent both urbanized and suburban areas, as it is necessary to observe the 🎯characteristics and conditions of all areas.

The complete weather dataset 🎯, including temperature, humidity, precipitation, wind speed and direction, solar radiation, and atmospheric pressure, has been will be made accessible, and we are looking to upload it on the weather underground website. These parameters have been observed and used to analyze differently based on their indications and characteristics. All of these data are essential in regard to a proper urban climate analysis and the subsequent elaboration of urban development recommendations. Also, we plan to cross the data against 🛰️ satellite images next year.
