[Keynote] Pathways and Solutions towards Net-Zero Whole-Life Carbon Buildings by 2050

[Keynote] Pathways and Solutions towards Net-Zero Whole-Life Carbon Buildings by 2050

Join the 6th International ASHRAE Conference on Efficient Building Design (3 and 4 October 2024) at the American University in Beirut, Lebanon.

The Sixth International Conference on Efficient Building Design, organized by ASHRAE, the ASHRAE Lebanese Chapter, the Munib and Angela Masri Institute of Energy and Natural Resources and the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the American University of Beirut, will be held on October 3-4, 2024 at The American University of Beirut (AUB), Beirut, Lebanon.

The conference's objective is to present advanced research targeting human well-being and energy through the design of safe, healthy, thermally comfortable, and resilient buildings at minimal energy costs. Papers are welcome on topics that encompass sustainable HVAC solutions that can combat global warming in arid and semi-arid regions and the influence of the adoption of sustainable practices by various stakeholders on the investment in building decarbonization. You can register here: https://lnkd.in/eEkRjJxb.

The conference also features a public panel titled COP28 and the Global “Cooling” Pledge  . Six distinguished speakers will participate and exchange the most recent approaches for sustainable cooling to meet zero-net emissions.

My keynote title is Pathways and Solutions towards Net-Zero Whole-Life Carbon Buildings by 2050

The presentation focuses on the pathways and solutions needed by various stakeholders and decision-makers to implement whole-lifecycle-based net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from buildings in policy and practice. This means achieving the ultimate goal of the Paris Agreement, which is to limit global warming to well below 2°C, above pre-industrial levels, by aiming to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 latest. In this context, 'Paris-goal compatible' technologies and solutions, including energy efficiency, renewable energy and storage, are presented. The presentation will explore the advances in science towards the transition of the building and real estate sector towards net-zero whole-life carbon, including low-carbon materials, heat pumps, smart grids and district heating and cooling. In parallel, issues of fuel poverty, well-being and thermal comfort in the MENA region will be explored. The presenter will seek an engagement and knowledge exchange with the attendees further to discuss the implementation potential of solutions into practice to promote and support the delivery of carbon neutral buildings at speed and scale.
